The Goal Is To Have Less To Do

prime-productivity-the-goal-is-to-have-less-to-do

I used to try to fill my days with as much activity as possible. The problem is that I was mistaking activity for accomplishment. Instead of moving towards my goals, I was running around all over the place.

The key is to focus on the vital few actions that will help you make significant progress in the achievement of your desired goals.

By focusing on the vital few, you will find yourself further along on our journey. Yes, less can be more!

Chase Two Rabbits, Catch None

Keep your eyes on the prize and focus on the one major action that will make you realize your main goal! Avoid the temptation of trying to focus on too many things at the same time which results in spreading yourself too thin and getting pulled into too many different directions.

If you want to catch your desired “rabbits” in life, then get into the habit of hunting them down one at a time. You will find that your focused and prioritized efforts will produce the most results like… rabbits multiplying.

“If you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one.” ~ Russian Proverb

Regular Breaks Improve Your Creativity & Productivity

Don’t worry about breaks every 20 minutes ruining your focus on a task. Contrary to what I might have guessed, taking regular breaks from mental tasks actually improves your creativity and productivity. Skipping breaks, on the other hand, leads to stress and fatigue.

Never Mistake Motion for Action

Prime-Productivity-never-mistake-motion-for-action

Are you doing whatever it takes to keep yourself from running in place? If you ever feel like at the end of the day you’ve done so much but haven’t accomplished anything significant, you’re not alone.

When we’re not in our prime productivity zone, our wheels are spinning and we’re burning fuel but we find ourselves right back where we started.

To make progress with our major goals requires exercising courage, discipline, and concentration.

We can often trick ourselves into thinking we’re taking real action by doing easy tasks that are really distractions or forms of procrastination.

This leads to capturing non-essential tasks on your to-do list and knocking them out to feel like you’re actually making some progress.

These trivial tasks can take the form of unintentional cleaning and tidying, answering unimportant calls, reading non-related emails, or prolonged planning to avoid doing the real meaningful work.

To avoid the trap of pouring your time into wasted-motion-activities ask yourself this question ➡️  If this were the only thing I accomplished today, would I be satisfied with my day?

This guiding question can help you direct your attention to the major activities you really should be working on.

Knowing the difference between meaningful and meaningless action will make all the difference with the vision you pursue.

“Never mistake motion for action.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

Take Action While the Emotion Is Strong

Prime-Productivity-take-action-while-the-emotion-is-strong

I hate to say this but a lot of people talk about taking action but never actually get around to making things happen.

It’s easy to be inspired when a hot idea strikes you, but if you don’t act while the emotion is strong, the feeling will eventually fade away and no progress will be made. Time will pass and the emotion will become cold and stale.

Possessing an idea in the moment is not enough to make it real. You’ve got to nurture your idea to life.

Most folks have good intentions and talk a big game, but never actually get off the sidelines to play.

Be different than the majority of people.

Take IMMEDIATE action when the idea is still hot and fresh. Don’t neglect your idea only to let it die without having a chance to grow.

WANT TO WRITE? Then pick up a pen and write whatever comes to mind in this moment.
WANT TO MEDITATE? Then sit down wherever you are and be still.
WANT TO LEAVE YOUR JOB? Then pull out your resume and update it.
WANT TO START A BUSINESS? Then begin mapping out your business model and strategy.
WANT TO GET BACK INTO SHAPE? Then put on your shoes and start with a walk around the block.
WANT TO BUILD BETTER RELATIONSHIPS? Then call up a friend and let them know you’re grateful to have them in your life.

The time to act is when the excitement is high and you’re feeling inspired. Even the smallest action to support your idea will begin building momentum in the right direction.

Don’t neglect the ideas that you’re blessed to have and commit to taking disciplined action to make them happen!
